Grandma's new wheels

My parents live in Chapel Hill, right down the road. For Mother's Day last year, my brother and I gave my mom a double jogging stroller so that she could walk her boys (and other grandkids!). I went over there this week with Cal and she was keeping Jackson for the morning. We loaded up the boys and took the for a walk.

It warms my heart to think of how close these little guys are going to be. Jackson will be 2 in January. Cal is going to look up to Jackson and I know they are going to be great friends. Chris and Elizabeth (my brother and sis-in-law) are having a little girl in March.... she just might be the most watched over little girl in the world with big brother Jackson and cousin Cal!

Carolina Game

This past Saturday, Eddie was out of town and I had Cal to myself and my parents had extra tickets to the UNC/Dook game. I REALLY wanted to go to the game. Before Cal, we went to a ton of games and tailgated and I always loved going. I have really missed the games this year, although I wouldn't trade my time with Cal for anything :).

My parents knew I was itching to go, so I dressed Cal in his finest Carolina Blue and we headed to the game! I was nervous about feeding/changing him at the stadium, but it all worked out okay. I pumped a bottle before we went, and I fed him in the parking lot before we went to the stadium. We changed him at the car too, and didn't have to change him again once we got into Kenan.

I loaded Cal into the Baby Bjorn and we headed in! He was GREAT! He slept in the Bjorn for the majority of the 1st half and everyone around us was commenting on how sweet he was and what a good baby he was. I was soooo thankful that he was a good baby! I was nervous because it wouldn't be fun to have an unhappy baby at a football game.

The temps were dropping as the sun set so we left at the half so that Cal wouldn't get cold. He was such a trooper and by then he was awake. I felt good with him in the carrier so that the germs around us couldn't get him very easily, and I didn't really want to take him out.

I took a few pictures, but he is so bundled that you can't even see him! It wa a great excuse to bounce up and down as the band played (I always want to, but can't do it and not look like a total goob, but with a baby, no one questioned me!).

Can't wait for next season to take him back!

Goooooo Heels!!!

Tuckered out!

All of this talk about Cal not sleeping on his back, and what does he do??
SIGH!

Tummy Time

We are working on some tummy time so that Cal can build up his neck muscles so that I don't have to worry about him sleeping on his tummy every night. Here are some pictures of him doing his tummy time on his Boppy pillow:

Halloween

Me and Eddie with our little PUP

We had such a fun time for Halloween! Mr. Cal was dressed up as a dog....it cracked me up! I tried the outfit on him at home first and I thought it was too cute. Hank was sniffing him and poking him thinking it was a stuffed animal for him. I took some pictures because there was no telling if he would cooperate later on in the night.

We took Cal over to our friend's house to go "trick-or-treating" with them. We ended up having a good group of people in a really fun neighborhood. The dads packed a cooler and the moms pushed strollers and tended to the kids.
Me and Katie with Miller and Cal (the dog pound)

It was SUPER hot here Halloween night so Cal stripped down out of his costume and sported a plain white onesie for the night. He started to get fussy as we were leaving Katie and Chapman's house so I took him out of the costume and carried him in my arms. He was so content and happy that I just carried him around for about an hour. He was sound asleep with his arm dangling down. I was sweating like crazy, but it was really fun.

We can hardly wait until next year's Halloween when he will be walking (maybe??). Having a baby makes this holiday so much for enjoyable. I wonder what he'll be next year.....

Sleep Wars

Oh, it's been a looooong time since my last post. I have been meaning to write, but never actually get around to it. I have been updating our MobileMe website often, so you can go there to see pictures.

I wrote before about working on getting Cal to sleep better. I talked with a lot of moms about what they did to get their kids down.

We tried mixing some rice cereal with some breast milk to give him in a bottle after his last meal of the day (I feed him until he's full and then give him a bottle mixed with the goods). The first night I tried it, he ate some of it, pulled away and then fell asleep. He woke up a few hours later ready to chomp down again.

We tried doing a routine and getting him to sleep in his crib (as opposed to my bed). It took 3 hours to get him calm, and by the time he was falling asleep, he was hungry again and ready to eat.

SO, I fed him the other night in my bed and then put him on my chest to burp him. He fell sound asleep on my chest (which I love, by the way), and I didn't want to wake him because he was so content, so I placed him in the bassinet next to my bed on his stomach. I know he is not supposed to be on his belly until he is old enough to roll over, etc.... but the kid sleep like a rock! He was out! He slept for 4 hours and then woke up to feed.

I am nervous with him on his stomach, but he loves it and that is the only way he'll sleep now. I am keeping him next to the bed so I can hear him. We have been feeding him at 12, 3, and 6....I am hoping to take out the 3:00 feeding. Hopefully that will be a post that will come soon!!!

Hank and Cal

Many people ask me how Hank is liking his new little brother. To be honest, he's really good with him! We are trying hard to still love on Hank all the time and give him lots of attention. Sometimes if Cal starts crying, Hank will go over and sit next to him and just stare. He tries to be gentle around him (sometimes his massive paws get in the way). Here are some pictures of the soon to be best friends.

Grrr......

I woke up Thursday morning SO excited! I had a great day ahead of me:
Cal's one month pictures with Tamara Lackey (our wedding photographer!)
Lunch with my friend from Winston-Salem, Sara and her son, Charles

It was just going to be a great day!

I carried the diaper bag and my purse out to my car while my mother in law held Cal so that I could just run in, get him, and go. I opened up the back door to my car and saw some green looking glass on the seat. I thought it was weird, but I thought I just dragged something in the last time I got in (SO stupid of me!). I looked towards my front seat and saw a TON more glass! Then I put 2 and 2 together (like any bright blonde would do!), and realized that my window had been broken! A thief came down my driveway (my car was parked 3 feet from the side of my house, and my mother in law's window), peeked in the car and saw a purse, took a brick from our front walkway, and threw it through the window. UGH!

Good news: I just bought a new purse two days before, so I had just switched purses, so the one he stole was empty. Yes, that is good news, but still a total bummer because I loved that purse! Actually, it's almost funny... the only thing in the purse was a tube of nipple cream! HAHA! My friend gave me that for nursing so I had it in my bag, but didn't switch it into my new bag- hope he enjoys it!

I called the police and they showed up immediately. They said they have been having a lot of troubles in our neighborhood lately (yikes!), so they are treating every call has high priority. We live in a great neighborhood with a lot of nice walking trails, but apparently, the thief gets what he wants and then disappears onto the trails. I am now scared to death to be home! I seriously jump a mile at every sound and I am convinced that the thief is going to come back since he didn't get anything the first time...morbid thought, huh?

The good news is that no one was hurt and hopefully he won't be back for a while!

The bad news is that my window was totally shattered and my car still has glass all over it, even though it has been cleaned out several times. Oh, and glass went into the seat belt holder of the passenger side of the front seat and now it is broken. The seat belt can't go into the hole anymore. I have to go to the Ford dealership tomorrow to see if they can give me a new seatbelt. I just want to tell the guy THANKS for all the extra crap you are creating for me to do!

Here is a pic of the car window:

One Month Check Up

We took Cal for his one month check up (a few days early) last week. Everything is looking great and he did great with the doctor! We are soooo lucky with this pediatrician. I taught her daughter 2 years ago and she was a handful (in a good way! Just a lot of energy!), and I spent much of my days emailing her mother....so, now she is my pediatrician and she is wonderful! I have her cell phone number and personal email address (and swear that I don't use them-- well, I do email, but never the cell phone!). Any way, she has us come in after hours to avoid any germ in the office. She loves Cal and often emails me just to ask about him!

He checked out great... he weighs 10 pounds, 11 ounces! He gained 28 ounces in 21 days!!! Babies should be gaining 1/2 ounce to an ounce every day and he is well over that. I asked about his percentile, because I was sure he was going to be wayyyy out there, but he is only in the 75% in height and weight. Go figure!

All in all, he did great and we are happy that he seems to be happy! We really can't ask for anything more!

TCU: GOoooo Frogs!

Eddie's dad is a football coach for TCU (Texas Christian University) in Fort Worth, Texas. Last weekend, we decided to cheer them on from afar...
