Highs and Lows

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster....!

My last post was Saturday before the big TCU game.  Right before the game started, Eddie went out to get the mail and came in and said, "Why would you be getting mail from Regis and Kelly?" I had written in for tickets forever ago for our trip to NYC coming up next week. Every year my mom and I do a girls trip together.  We normally for to New York, but last year, with Cal nursing, we went to Atlanta and took him with us.  Getting the tickets: Definite HIGH!

Half way through the game, TCU was beyond dominating: HIGH!

I got a text at halftime that Grandma was in the hospital.  She was complaining of stomach pains and they decided she needed to go in for more work: LOW

My mom and dad were once again out of town (remember when Grandpa passed away?  They were in FRANCE! This time they were only in Florida.), so my aunt was with my grandma in the hospital: LOW

My Aunt texted me (about 3rd quarter of the game) and thought it really wasn't anything bad-- more than likely it's just constipation or something like it (sorry for the TMI, but this was good news): HIGH

The game ends and TCU CRUSHED Utah: HIGH!  (again, both teams were undefeated and this was a tough game for TCU.  They didn't just win, they pulverized them.  The announcers were singing the praises of the Offensive Line (which my father in law coaches) saying that the OB had enough time to make an eat a sandwich before throwing the ball-- HIGH!

I get a call from my mom in Florida.  Grandma is worse than we thought.  She is getting rushed into emergency surgery.  The doctors said if they didn't operate right then, she would die within the week.  Soooo, I run to the hospital to sit with my aunt and wait for news.  They said the operation could take 1 hour, or it could take 8, there was no telling how bad it was and they would know more once they got in her: LOW

Grandma got out of surgery after an hour and a half and it was the best case scenario; they were able to clean up the infected area and her colon would not need to be removed: HIGH

My Aunt and I stayed at the hospital until around midnight, then left and decided to come back early on Sunday.  The time changed Saturday night and Cal handled it really well, sleeping until 7:15 (new time): HIGH

At 8:00 on Sunday morning, we arrived at the hospital to find a verrrry confused grandma.  The medicine she was on had her hallucinating and very unaware of her surroundings. LOW

Mom and dad were able to catch an earlier flight home and got to the hospital around 4:00: HIGH

I left at 5 to go home to Eddie and Cal (Eddie was such a trooper, thank goodness) and my mom and dad stayed with her until about 7 when she was so tired she was just going to go to sleep.

My phone rang at midnight and it was the nurse on duty who had my number from the night before during the surgery.  Grandma was awake and VERY upset and very confused and wouldn't let anyone near her.  He said she needed a family member around her at all times to keep her calm so she could hear a familiar voice: LOW

My dad went and spent the night with her and it's been a battle with her ever since.  She is getting better, but she is still confused and right now thinks everyone is out to get her or hurt her.  She is saying some really hurtful things to people around her.  We all have to remind each other that she doesn't mean it: LOW

When I left on Sunday evening, I had some spotting.  I have had some spotting before in this pregnancy, but normally it is light brown (sorry again for the TMI), but this time, it had a more pinkish tinge to it.  It was also heavier than my normal spotting.  I am 12 weeks tomorrow so this scared me quite a bit.  LOW

I called the advice nurse on Monday and she wanted me to come in just to make sure everything was okay and thank goodness everything is fine.  I got a full check up and an ultrasound and the baby has grown quite a bit and "its" heart beat is still strong! HIGH!

Here is a picture of the latest picture of sweet pea:

HIGH

We still do not know what is going to happen with Grandma or when she will get out of the hospital or where she will go when she gets out.  Therefore, it is not 100% that mom and I are going to take our trip.  My dad had a trip planned too (he does an annual trip too for his birthday while mom and I are gone), but mom and I have tickets to shows that are non-refundable, so he doesn't want us to miss our trip.  This is just a big question mark right now: HIGH/LOW?

We are thankful for our health and the growing baby in my belly and the family surrounding us. We are so blessed to all have each other close by to be there for Grandma!

PS-- My mom and dad are never allowed to travel again.  Just saying.....
