Halloween Week!

This might be a long post-- I was going to split it up into multiple posts, but it is just going to be one long one.

Monday:

A normal day-- Cal went to school and had a great time.  That night, at 1, Cal woke up from a dream and was talking about have two pets in his room (clearly still asleep).  I got him back to sleep and then went back to my bed.  Just as I was falling asleep, Andy cried out.  I went in his room and he said he had a tummy ache.  We were up with him from about 3 until the morning-- he threw up a few times and every time he did, he said it made him feel better.

Tuesday:

Neither boy has school on Tuesdays and Andy seemed to be feeling great when we woke up. He had full energy and was running around like usual! Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

We ran to the grocery store to get a few things and when we got there, Andy said he needed to poopoo...  I pushed the cart over to the bathroom and stood him up to carry him in, and let's just say he passed a little "loaded gas." It was all the way up his back-- the poor poor kid.  He was wearing his big boy underwear so there was no "catching" any of this.  I walked over to the cashier and paid for the groceries in my cart (I think I had three things thrown in there), and walked to the car, where I stripped him down in the parking lot.  He hasn't had an accident in so long that I stopped carrying back up clothes everywhere we go.  Rookie move.  Andy went down at noon for his nap and I woke him up at 4:00 to take him to my mom's house.  She kept him while I took Cal to soccer-- I was terrified of having being at soccer and having Andy either having an accident, or telling me he had to go and there not being anywhere to go!
Tuesday night, Andy woke up at 1 and I was up with him from about 1 until 5.  Great times.

Wednesday:

This little 'bug' of Andy's could not have come at a worse time! I was Parent of the Day in Andy's class on Wednesday and Cal had his Halloween parade-- it was an action packed morning! After another long night with Andy, Eddie insisted I take him to the doctor. SO, I called the doc first thing in the am, got an apt for noon, took Andy to my mom's house so she could keep him for the morning (she is the BEST) and then took Cal and his sweet treat I volunteered to make to school for his costume parade.

After the parade, the kids went into the fellowship hall to hear a Halloween story and sing a song-- I had to run, but a friend sent me these pictures of Cal... love them!

I called Andy's teacher after the parade and explained everything going on-- she told me I didn't need to come in at all (I felt terrible about that), so I ran to his school to take in the snacks that I made, then I went to get Andy and took him to the doctor.  She confirmed that it is just a bug and it will pass.....
That evening, we carved pumpkins.

Or, should I say EDDIE carved pumpkins....
Eddie was SO excited to do this with the boys this year.  I thought they probably would be interested for about 4 minutes and then over it.  I was ready to set up newspaper on the kitchen table, but Eddie wanted to carve outside....where all of their fun toys are.  So, I took my prediction of 4 minutes and decreased it to 2.  HA! Eddie tried to get them to help scoop the goop, but Cal wouldn't touch it and Andy was too busy riding his bike in the driveway.  Eddie worked hard and carved two cute pumpkins!

After that, it was bath time and bed time and we all slept great.... well, before being up from 1:30-4:45 with Andy! This time, no throwing up, just diarrhea....!

Thursday:
Happy Halloween! The boys were SO excited for Halloween! They practiced all day telling people Happy Halloween! And Trick or Treat! And then saying thank you as soon as they got candy :) I made an appointment over a month ago to sell some baby clothes at a store here.  My mom, once again, came to my rescue-- seriously, she is THE best! I took the boys to her house while I ran the huge tub into the store.  I came back to her house and got the boy in their costumes.

Honestly.  How cute is my mom? Have I mentioned she is the best? I would not have survived this week without her!

We were planning on visiting my dad at his office and Eddie at his office and then maybe a former colleague of mine.  Well, it was a warm day and I had the boys dressed way too warmly and then I put the costumes on top of their warm clothes and they were both HOT.  Cal was too excited to be in costume to care if he was hot, but Andy was OVER it.  He fell to the ground in the lobby of my dad's building and screamed like you would not believe.  Costume came off and nap time happened around noon again.  He slept for 4.5 hours again. After naps, we got dressed ad ready to go:

We went over to a friend's house in the next neighborhood to eat dinner and trick or treat over there.  They had a little "pre-party" and it was SO much fun! We did this last year too and it was awesome! Since it had been well over 24 hours since Andy's last throw up, we let him go trick or treating with us-- we just kept him away from other kiddos.

They both LOVED trick or treating.  We made a huge deal about using manners with every single house and Cal took that to heart, my little rule follower.  He would say trick or treat, get candy and ten say thank you, then walk back down the steps and then say "I better thank him again..." then walk back up the stairs and say "excuse me? thank you!" It was so cute-- and I am so thankful they remembered their manners!

We stayed out until about 7:30 and as we were going home, my parents called and were sitting outside with a fire going- it sounded like fun, so we ran by there before going home! Both kids crashed hard last night and slept great....until 1:00 again! Andy woke up and had it coming out both ends (ugh. sorry).  It was a long and tiring night.... seriously long.
This too shall pass!!!! I still enjoyed the time with my family very much and loved the memories made!

Friday:
Today, Cal had a teacher workday and Andy couldn't go to school, so we have been playing at home... clearly, they aren't ready to move past Halloween:
