Hank and Cal

Many people ask me how Hank is liking his new little brother. To be honest, he's really good with him! We are trying hard to still love on Hank all the time and give him lots of attention. Sometimes if Cal starts crying, Hank will go over and sit next to him and just stare. He tries to be gentle around him (sometimes his massive paws get in the way). Here are some pictures of the soon to be best friends.

Grrr......

I woke up Thursday morning SO excited! I had a great day ahead of me:
Cal's one month pictures with Tamara Lackey (our wedding photographer!)
Lunch with my friend from Winston-Salem, Sara and her son, Charles

It was just going to be a great day!

I carried the diaper bag and my purse out to my car while my mother in law held Cal so that I could just run in, get him, and go. I opened up the back door to my car and saw some green looking glass on the seat. I thought it was weird, but I thought I just dragged something in the last time I got in (SO stupid of me!). I looked towards my front seat and saw a TON more glass! Then I put 2 and 2 together (like any bright blonde would do!), and realized that my window had been broken! A thief came down my driveway (my car was parked 3 feet from the side of my house, and my mother in law's window), peeked in the car and saw a purse, took a brick from our front walkway, and threw it through the window. UGH!

Good news: I just bought a new purse two days before, so I had just switched purses, so the one he stole was empty. Yes, that is good news, but still a total bummer because I loved that purse! Actually, it's almost funny... the only thing in the purse was a tube of nipple cream! HAHA! My friend gave me that for nursing so I had it in my bag, but didn't switch it into my new bag- hope he enjoys it!

I called the police and they showed up immediately. They said they have been having a lot of troubles in our neighborhood lately (yikes!), so they are treating every call has high priority. We live in a great neighborhood with a lot of nice walking trails, but apparently, the thief gets what he wants and then disappears onto the trails. I am now scared to death to be home! I seriously jump a mile at every sound and I am convinced that the thief is going to come back since he didn't get anything the first time...morbid thought, huh?

The good news is that no one was hurt and hopefully he won't be back for a while!

The bad news is that my window was totally shattered and my car still has glass all over it, even though it has been cleaned out several times. Oh, and glass went into the seat belt holder of the passenger side of the front seat and now it is broken. The seat belt can't go into the hole anymore. I have to go to the Ford dealership tomorrow to see if they can give me a new seatbelt. I just want to tell the guy THANKS for all the extra crap you are creating for me to do!

Here is a pic of the car window:

One Month Check Up

We took Cal for his one month check up (a few days early) last week. Everything is looking great and he did great with the doctor! We are soooo lucky with this pediatrician. I taught her daughter 2 years ago and she was a handful (in a good way! Just a lot of energy!), and I spent much of my days emailing her mother....so, now she is my pediatrician and she is wonderful! I have her cell phone number and personal email address (and swear that I don't use them-- well, I do email, but never the cell phone!). Any way, she has us come in after hours to avoid any germ in the office. She loves Cal and often emails me just to ask about him!

He checked out great... he weighs 10 pounds, 11 ounces! He gained 28 ounces in 21 days!!! Babies should be gaining 1/2 ounce to an ounce every day and he is well over that. I asked about his percentile, because I was sure he was going to be wayyyy out there, but he is only in the 75% in height and weight. Go figure!

All in all, he did great and we are happy that he seems to be happy! We really can't ask for anything more!

TCU: GOoooo Frogs!

Eddie's dad is a football coach for TCU (Texas Christian University) in Fort Worth, Texas. Last weekend, we decided to cheer them on from afar...

Visiting the GREAT grandparents

Cal made a trip today (Sunday) out to Croasdaile to visit his Great Grandparents. I am so glad we took him out there. They were pretty smitten with him!
4 generations: Cal, Carrie, Carol, and Grandpa Bruce!

Grandma with me and Mom and Cal.

Grandma taking it all in!

His momma is a shoe lover!

Our good friends the Fitch's gave Cal a little gift. We had to put them on him immediately because we don't know how long they will fit:It's kind of hard to see, but they are white shoes with his monogram across the top...too cute!

So he wore these shoes on a little outing to Babies R Us, and I decided that I LOVE him in some shoes! I saw these and HAD to get them:

I love this kid....!

"We like the name, not the school.."

So Mom was over one Saturday and we were watching college football. Cal State was playing and their logo kept flashing on the bottom of the screen. We thought it was the cutest thing because we have our sweet Cal, so my mom, being the nut that she is, went to the Cal State website and ordered us sweatshirts! She wore her new sweatshirt out around friends and none of them got it. We all think it's hilarious...
We have to keep explaining that we don't care a thing for the school... we just like the name! ha!

Cal update!

It seems like I have been so busy that I haven't had the time to update my blog, but when it comes to updating the blog, I don't really have much to post!

Things with Cal are going GREAT. We are still figuring out his feedings. He is hungry ALL the time, but our doctor said to really try to hold him off so that from time off the breast to time back on the breast is at least 2 hours. This will teach Cal to eat until full at each feeding and it will encourage him to sleep for longer stretches at night. Well, this is easier said than done! We can hold him off sometimes, but when this kid wants to eat, he wants to eat! I have gotten pretty good at holding him off by walking around with him. Eddie, on the other hand, just wants to feed him when he cries. If we continued doing that, we would have a 20 pound 4 week old!
This is how we have to hold him when he *thinks* he is hungry. He passes out every time!

He still gets up at night to eat (of course!). I was getting up to feed him and changing his diaper and spending about 1.5 hours each time up with him. That was ridiculous! He was fully waking up at each feeding and taking his sweet time going back to sleep. I started not changing his diaper at night and it has helped tons! Actually, he has been sleeping by my side (in the bed with me-- I know! it's bad!), and then when it's time to eat, I feed him and he falls right back asleep again. He doesn't like his crib right now, but we are hoping to work him out of that. I have got to break the habit of him in my bed, but it is sooooo nice and easy that way!

I posted a website over on the side bar that we are using to upload all of our pictures. I am trying to keep that really current so if I am slacking here, you can see Cal grow by looking over at that link.
