A crazy Wednesday

This past Wednesday was CRAZY. Not just regular, I live with two young (wild) boys and two big dogs crazy.  But pretty much crazy.

Cal was scheduled to have an early release day-- his school district has one once a month for teacher development and training.  That morning, I was feeling YUCK.  I have been fighting a cold and the cold was making my stomach upset.  I am not pregnant.  Again, I am not pregnant.  But I am assuming this stomach yuckiness is similar to that of morning sickness (I have never had morning sickness so I wouldn't know...).  But I was hanging out feeling like I could throw up at any minute.  It was AWFUL! Gross.

Thankfully, I decided to bag workout that morning so I could get some stuff done around the house before Eddie got home (he was scheduled to land at 4:25 Wednesday afternoon).  The house needed to be vacuumed and the laundry needed some attention too.  ANYWAY, I dropped boys at school and headed to the house to be productive.  As I was cleaning, I got a call from Cal's assistant teacher letting me know they were going to release the kids an hour earlier than a regular early release day because of storms in the area.  There were bad weather warnings all over the place.

This was all fine, it just made me hurry up a little bit-- I jumped in the shower so I could get Cal before the craziness of early dismissal.  And then I got the text that Andy's lunch bunch was canceled due to the weather too-- so I had to get on over to his school as well.

I scheduled dentist appointments (at a new office for the boys) for me and both boys on this day, thinking it would be a great way to knock it all out on a day where no one was missing any school.  What was I thinking?

In the waiting room, I had to fill out about 92 forms on the boys and their medical history ("are you a smoker? have you ever been? do you use smokeless tobacco? at what age did you start?") all the while planning my escape route to the bathroom in case I needed to puke-- and also debating if I should just cancel my portion of the appointment.  Andy was FULL of energy this day...I mean FULL of it.  He was putting on a show in the waiting room and I was not feeling up for telling him no, so I just sat there... that's how you know I wasn't feeling well- hahaha

Andy went back first and about 4 minutes into him being gone, the hygienist came and got me and said "he said he needs his mommy right now." I went back and he as bawling-- big fat tears down his face.  As soon as I sat down with him, he was good to go! Not scared at all.... just wanted me near him I guess.

When Andy was almost done, Cal went down the hall and they started his cleaning.   He was all good down there, so I just walked back and forth down the hall checking on them.  When the dentist tried to paint fluoride on Cal's teeth, he pushed his hand away and said "no, thank you..." haha, sorry buddy-- open up! I think he thought it would hurt-- but the dentist showed him that it was like a paint brush and he was good to go.
 All smiles by the end!
And then it was my turn.  They put me in a room with a bench for the kids to sit on... I am sorry-- did you not realize that I am here with my two boys? They don't sit anywhere.  Ever.  The boys quickly spotted a set of fake teeth over on the little side table-- they broke that within 2 minutes.
I was *that*  mom during the appointment that would snap my fingers as hard as I could to get the kids to do what they were supposed to do.  All in all, they were not BAD, by any means, and I should be so thankful that they both got a big fat thumbs up for healthy teeth.  And I am.  Because I am not ready to go back there any time soon! It will take 6 months to get back there!

When I went to pick up Cal from school, he was in an assembly in the gym.  I watched him walk across the gym to me and noticed him walking with a little bit of a limp.  This was after him complaining of his leg hurting (upper thigh) on Monday and Tuesday.

Cal isn't the kid of kid to complain about something hurting for long.  Maybe a day- maybe.  So my mom gut told me something wasn't right with him.

So we went straight from the dentist to the orthopedics office.  They do walk in hours which is BOMB.  We walked right in and were taken back to a room.  They gave Cal some sweet paper shorts to wear... ahahhaha

And then we had to wait for a bit.... Andy wasn't really feeling the whole "WAIT" thing...
Soon, they took Cal back to x-ray.  I felt very (very!) confident nothing was broken-- my gut just said a deep bruise or something, but I am glad they took pictures to be sure.  Andy wanted to know why he couldn't go with Cal--

I realized while we were there, this will not be the last time we are visiting this office, sadly....haha

The doctor came back in with the results and let us know that we were right, nothing was broken, but that Cal had Transient Synovitis of the Hip-- basically it is caused by a mild "trauma" (falling down, bumping into someone, being Cal Williamson....) and it heals itself-- with adequate rest.   He was in the middle of telling us that Cal is to have restricted activities (no recess, no PE, not playing with brother, no running around, etc....), when both of our phones went off alerting us to a tornado warning in our area.  It instructed us to take cover immediately.  Seriously?

They put us into a back room and a sweet nurse brought in a box full of stickers. They quickly covered themselves in stickers and were bored with that about about 30 seconds.

They came and got us and told us everyone was in the main hallway if we wanted to join.  We didn't want to be in the back room alone, so we went out to the main area with all the doctors and nurses and other patients and we took a seat on the floor and waited.

The alarm was called off after about 45 minutes (yup. we sat on the floor for 45 mins....) and we stood up and got ready to go and then our phones all went off again-- another warning! So we took cover again......
By this point, it was about 3:30 and Andy said he was hungry.  DUH! Of course he was hungry! He didn't have lunch bunch and I picked him up and went straight to the dentist and then we went straight to the doctor....! I decided to make a bee line to the car to grab his lunch box and he sat right there on the office floor eating his lunch while we waited it out.  We ended up being there close to 2 hours when you add in the appointment and the tornado warnings.

I mentioned above that Eddie was flying in during all of this. If you know Eddie, you know he isn't the best flyer.  At all.  He was NOT thrilled about being on that flight.  He bought wifi in flight so he could text me/track the tornadoes... not kidding.

We were sitting on the floor with him texting me in a total panic.  He doesn't mess with weather-- at all.  So he was beside himself.

When I told him we were leaving the doctor's office, he panicked and didn't think it was safe yet.  Bless his heart.  I got us home-- I was anxious to get to the dogs!!!! And then he called and asked us to go get him.  Thankfully, my parents knew I had reached my limit and they went and got him.

PHEW! We were happily reunited as a family of 6-- and it was great, hahaha

It was, most definitely, a crazy crazy Wednesday!!!
