SEE YA LATER!

Eddie and I are heading here tomorrow morning...

source

Little Dix Bay down in the British Virgin Islands on Virgin Gorda-- ahhhhhhh

For the next week, we will be spending our time relaxing, resting, reading, SLEEPING, and enjoying time just the two of us.  And we are pumped.  I am calling it a second honeymoon.  And I am pretending we are newly weds.  Because...why not?

The boys are spending the week with Grandma and Grandpa.  GOD LOVE THEM.  I don't know how to thank them for giving up a week of their busy lives to take care of my crazy wild energetic spastic loving little men.  Especially when both of these little men were up in the night last night...multiple times.  Mom, if you are reading this...it's too late to back out!

I am sure there will be huge long picture-filled post when we get back... but until then... here are some pictures from the hotel website...

I can feel the deep exhale coming as we head to our favorite place in the world...!

Big BOYS room

For a while, I felt like all I ever blogged about was sleep-- or the lack thereof.  Cal gave me fits for a while with sleeping, then Andy did... sleeping through the night is a rarity around here.  And most nights, when they wake up, they don't want or need anything.  At all.  Just to, you know, say, "hey, mom. What's shaking?"

Andy was waking up every.single.night and coming into our room.  We have a queen size bed which we decided a long time ago is not big enough for me, Eddie and a child.  So we established a rule that if a kid wants to sleep with us, he must do so in a sleeping bag ON THE FLOOR... and not in our bed.
So, for a while, ever.single.night, Andy would go to bed in his bed, wake me up in the middle of the night and finish the night in his sleeping bag-- he would never just get it himself... no, no, no.  I had to get it all set up for him and tuck him in nice and cozy.

There he is...all comfy cozy on the floor with Hank! (and my suitcases since we were leaving that morning for Myrtle Beach):

But then we headed to Myrtle Beach where the boys slept like this:
Together on a pull out couch.  Andy loved having his brother right there.

Then we went to the beach for the week and the boys stayed in the same room in twin beds.

So, by the time we got home, they had zero desire to sleep in their own bedrooms.  Zero.  And it wasn't just Andy-- Cal liked having company too.

They started sleeping like this:

Both boys in sleeping bags on Cal's floor.

They were sleeping okay, but not great.  Still not through the night.  Cal would flail over and whack Andy in the head, or Andy would lose lala under Cal's sleeping bag.  And then Cal started complaining that he wasn't comfortable on the floor-- and we felt bad having two kids sleep on the floor night after night when they both have nice beds.

So, we compromised:

We brought Andy's mattress in on Cal's floor.  Everyone slept on a mattress and everyone was happy.  Until Andy's pillow kept falling off the end of the bed... And until it came time for me to vacuum... I was trying to lift and move the mattress just to run the vacuum-- sounds so stupid and minute, but it was crazy annoying.  And every time I was putting away laundry (usually twice a day in this house!), I was stepping on and around the mattress on the floor.  I tried to "make" it every day by pulling up the blankets and tucking them in around the edges, thinking that would make it look nicer... it did- it made it look more inviting for the boys to come and jump like wild men on the bed every chance they got!

SOOOOOOooooo........ Andy's room is the bigger room, so it was decided we would move Cal's bed into his room.  I sold the changing table (thank you, facebook!) and rearranged a bit and then mom helped me move Cal's bed in.

I was super hesitant to combine rooms because Cal's furniture is brown and Andy's is white...again, this sounds just silly, I know, but the type A personality in my can't stand that!

All of my issues aside, I think the room turned out really cute... some day (when I know they will stay there...), I will get matching bedspreads....maybe....

The first night, both boys crashed immediately (we had had a big day!) and they both slept through the night and slept until 7:40.  It was a miracle! Eddie and I were super excited!

Last night, Andy woke up at 12:30 and asked to sleep on Cal's floor.  Once I pointed out that Cal was in the bed next to him, he went back to sleep.  Weirdo.

We now have an empty room upstairs.... we moved the glider in there and Cal's bookshelf and dresser are still in there... Cal loves going in there and setting up all his football guys to play.  Maybe I will turn it into a workout room...? We will see!

Here's hoping our sleeping issues are on the mend......!

#carriedaway: week 25

Week 25:

Day 190: swim meet rain delay with coach Harrison

Day 191: proud of my little shark and his ribbons from last night's meet

Day 192: I can't remember the last time both boys slept through the night. It finally happened last night. As a reward, we are having ice cream for lunch. The could have gotten so much more out of me...

Day 193: nothing says summer like...

Day 194: I dread the day they don't want to hold my hands.

Day 195: course and courts camp this week!

Day 196: poor guy... flat wore himself out today during the storms. He just sent himself to bed.

Weekend Update

We had another fun and busy weekend! Quick recap...

FRIDAY

Eddie has been wanting/needing some new clothes and I told him he should go to the outlets in Mebane... so, he came home early on Friday and we loaded up the car and headed to the outlets! They are only about 20 minutes away, but we hit some traffic.  Andy couldn't keep his eyes open.  He crashed hard...and drooled like crazy on the way there!

Before we shopped, we stopped at Blue Ribbon Diner for some early dinner.  This place is yummy-- the boys loved it! The two of them both wanted to sit by me-- not complaining! I love it! (however there wasn't a ton of room for all three of us........haha)

I brought the double stroller for the boys and tried hard to keep them entertained in the first store while Eddie shopped. We made faces in the mirror...

These outlets are great because there are little play places throughout the shops for the kids.   The boys got to play here for a while and they were happy!

To reward their good behavior (and because Eddie was craving one!), we stopped and got the kids (and Eddie!) a milkshake.

SATURDAY:

Saturday morning was the swim meet! See post about that HERE.  While Cal and I got up pretty early, Andy managed to sleep (on the floor) until 9:20.  Eddie had the perfect morning! ha!

Saturday night, we went to dinner with a group of friends-- 3 couples-- at this restaurant we've all been wanting to try.  It was SO SO SO good and we had a great time together! We had an early reservation so it wasn't too late of a night...thankfully!

We got no pics with the hubbies... whoops!

SUNDAY:

Eddie played golf on Sunday, despite the drizzly rain.  The rain meant that there would be no pool for me and the boys, so instead, the boys got haircuts! They were much much needed....
As soon as this woman started combing Andy's hair, he goes "you done now??" haha I love both boys with longer, shaggy hair...but Cal's was out of control long, and Andy really needed a trim too...

The other a hair washing at this place and Cal has never done it before....we did this time, and he was seriously cracking up the whole time.  This picture makes me smile....

And then this happened on Sunday...
I am going to do a whole post about it eventually... but the boys are now sharing one room.  We are not combining rooms to make room for another baby. We already have a study and a guest room. We don't NEED to have the extra room-- but the boys NEED to sleep in the same room.  Sleeping has been a nightmare (pun intended) around here lately and something had to give....
...and last night they slept in their "new" room and both slept through the night and slept until 7:37! PRAISE!

We need matching bed spreads, I know... that will come...maybe.... until then....

We also moved the glider into Cal's old room.  Hank immediately crawled up in the chair.  Moving furniture around totally worries him.  He was flat worn out from panicking and decided to rest in the chair! ha!

Sunday afternoon we had the swim team banquet.  You can read about that HERE.

And then Sunday night....sleep tight, roommates!

Hope y'all had a great weekend too!

Swim Team Finale

This weekend capped off the end of swim team! Saturday we had the championship swim meet and then Sunday there was the team banquet.  I have said it a million times, I know.... but I think swim team has been such a positive experience! We have loved participating in meets and practices and other fun events.  I think we will definitely do it again next year...maybe with both boys...? (I say that as I laugh out loud....NO WAY will Andy want to do that next year!)

Here is a look at our swim team weekend:

I have heard in the past that this meet is SUPER chaotic...over 700 swimmers all down on the floor, and parents are not allowed down there unless they are volunteering.  So, I volunteered to be a 6 and under chaperone for the boys.  THANK GOODNESS I did! Cal would have been a mess down there.

However, chaperones had to be there at 6:30am.  Cal wanted to make a quick Dunkin run before we went, so I woke up at 5:30 and got him up at 5:45...he was not wanting to wake up:

We got all ready and walked down to the garage-- leaving Andy asleep on the floor of our bedroom.  When I raised the garage door, Cal could NOT believe we were up before the sun was up...he started giggling in disbelief:

We ran to Dunkin and then headed to Koury Natatorium, which is where  Carolina has their swim meets.  I love this next picture of Cal... sleepy-eyed, sweet boy:

Once we got to our designated spot, the boys all set up their stuff and settled in to play before warmups.  We checked in the boys and wrote their names on their backs.

The boys all headed to warm up-- and it was chaotic...again, thank goodness I was down there! Cal and George posed before heading over.

Standing in front of the pool...ready to go!

Cal only swam in one event at Championship-- 25 free.  There is only one relay for all of the 6 and under boys and you have to swim a stroke more than 2 times in other meets to be able to do it in champs (he swam backstroke only one other time, so he wasn't able to swim in Saturday).

He swam so hard and dropped seconds off his time-- I was so proud!!

Since he was only in one event, after he swam it, he had to hang around until ALL of the 6 and under boys were done, since I was a chaperone.  He was super tired and pretty over it by the end.  Hands down the pants.....

One more picture of my little shark!

After the meet, we ran by Target to get a little reward for good behavior the last day of camp and for a great swim team season.... he got a paw patrol character and the movie Rio 2.

Sunday afternoon, we had the swim team banquet! The whole team gets together and receives a medal and then special awards are given out in each age group.  After all of that, the team watches a slideshow of pictures from the year.

It was a great way to end the season!

Cal and Brad sat by each other on the floor...

Cal waiting to be called up-- with his hands behind his back- hilarious.

My little SHARK!

Can't believe the swim season is over!!! Until next year.....
