Stomach Bug

We have been VERY lucky so far with Cal not getting the stomach bug. It's been going around so we knew is was just a matter of time.... Eddie went out of town yesterday so Cal, Hank and I were holding down the fort here.

My mom had a gingerbread house making party last night and I didn't want to get a sitter while I was there, so I took Cal and put him down in her crib and then woke him up and brought him home to go back to sleep.  He is reallllly good about this and always goes right back down.

When I carried him downstairs at my parents' house last night, my dad kissed his head and said he felt a little warm to him.  I thought it was just from where his face had been jammed into the bumper of my mom's crib!  We got home and he went straight down without even a fuss.

At 2:45 this morning, he cried out, but he does that often...sometimes he has a bad dream or he can't find his paci, etc... but this time, it was a real pathetic kind of cry.  It kept going, so at 3, I went in to his room to help him find the paci.  I never turned on a light, just reached my hand into the crib and felt around.  And I felt some wetness.  Cal had thrown up in his crib and was COVERED head to toe in it! I pulled him out of the crib and changed his jammies and used a wipe to wipe down the rest of him-- big mistake.  The smell was unbearable!

I brought him in bed with me and he snuggled on my chest and was so sweet and cozy and then looked up and me and puked all over my shirt.  I sat up even more to figure out what to do when he puked all over my bed.  I had a burp cloth nearby in case this happened, and he hit that, but it went all over the bed too.  The problem is, babies don't know where to puke, they just know they are going to!  His natural instinct is to come to me when he's hurt or not feeling well, so I got the brunt of most of the puke!

Then the challenge was to hold a crying, puking baby while changing the crib sheet.  Crib sheets are a pain to change without someone in your arms...add the puking, crying baby and you have yourself a problem!  I got that changed and then put him down to rest for a few minutes and he slept for about 20 minutes and woke himself up puking again....it was awful!  Poor thing!  This time merited a bath.

We came downstairs after the bath and he grabbed a sippy cup of water, dehydrated I am sure, and chugged it.  He threw the cup down after and came running over to me....and puked.  On me.  Again.  Poor poor little guy!

He was exhausted at 8 and ready for a nap, so I put on the freshly washed crib sheet and he went down great.  He slept for about an hour and I could hear him whimpering upstairs.  When I got about 10 stairs from the top, I could smell the worst smell EVER.  I will spare you the details, but let's just say it was now coming out BOTH ends, and this was just as liquid.... time for another bath!!!

After this bath, he did seem to be feeling a tad better...

As of 1:45, he has not thrown up since this morning around 7:45....fingers crossed that the worst of it is over!  My mom is coming over in about an hour with some goodies for us: lunch for me! and some spray disinfectant to get my house germ free.  The LAST thing we need is for us to be sick before we head out to California!

And OF COURSE, this happens the day AFTER our visit to the doctor!  Not that I would want to take him there today sick, but it would be nice to know what on earth to do to help the kid!  Someone on facebook mentioned the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast.  We've done the banana and the toast.  We will see how he is when he wakes up from his nap!!!

Hope you all are feeling well!!!  I am off to wash my hands....again!
