Pee Pee, Momma!

Before Andy was born, Cal started expressing interest in the potty.  I thought he was wayyyy too young for that, and I mentioned it to his pediatrician.  She said to hold off on any of that until after the baby was here-- you don't want to rock his boat too much.  So, we've been holding off on any kind of training.  Plus, really and truly, I am not sure I can handle the full on trials of potty training right now!  Am I ready for that??  I mean, I am ready to not have to change his diapers, but am I ready to be running to the bathroom while holding a little guy?

Anyway, he's been showing more and more interest in the potty and he LOVES to say peepee! over and over again and he LOVES to go into the bathroom, take off all of his clothes, and sit on the potty.  He then will make the peeing noise (use your imagination) while sitting there.  The toilet is so big though, so I have to hold him so he doesn't fall in.  He has yet to actually go on the potty.

Today, we were playing outside with some ice and water and he got all wet so I took off his shorts.  He decided then to take off his shirt.  He started grabbing at his diaper and saying "pee pee, momma, pee pee!", so he took off his diaper and walked over to the bowl of water we were using and peed right in the middle of it!  I was hooting and hollering what a good job he did (because I have heard of a lot of kids that freak out when they actually see themselves pee) and he was SO excited!  He was clapping and screaming "pee pee! pee pee!" while running circles around the deck.  I am sure the neighbors thought we were insane!  He ran around doing that for a few minutes, then he returned to the bowl and said "more pee pee!" and he did it again!  I was stunned!!! I am not encouraging him to just "go" anywhere like that, but I did want him to associate "pee pee" with the act that he just did, so when he does sit on the potty, he will know that when I say "go pee pee" that that is what I am looking for.

I tried later to put him on the potty, but he just made the noise and then got down after about 15 seconds.  We will see where this is going.  I might have to go buy a little guy potty for him... do any of you mother's of boys have any tips about this?  Is he too young still?  He's 20 months... help me! Also, are there any recommendations for boy potties?  Is it better to just get him a little seat to attach to the big potty?  I am clueless about this!  Does this even mean he's ready?

Here is a picture I got of him today while he was peeing-- I blocked out the parts (you are welcome), but the look on his face is absolutely priceless.  It CRACKS ME UP...he is so surprised and excited that something actually came out of that thing! HAHA!!

look what I did!!!!!

2 weeks old today!

there is nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby
Mr. Andy is 2 weeks old today!  I said it before, but I honestly can not imagine our lives without him in it.  He is such a sweet and snuggly baby.  He loves to be held and he will just melt himself into your arms when you hold him...that is, if he isn't hungry....

Andy likes to nurse.  If Andy is awake, he wants to nurse.  Andy will not take a pacifier...yet.  Momma is still trying.  Daily.

Things in our house are great.  Everyone left on Monday, and it was our first night as just a family of four-- with no outside help.  Do not get me wrong, I was thrilled to have all the help I could get (and I needed it!), but there's something about being home with my husband and our kids and just relaxing as a family of four that is so so sweet.

I was a little nervous for Tuesday morning when Eddie returned to work.  I would be home with both boys all day...could I handle it?  Obviously, I knew I would be fine, but it's still a little overwhelming if one is screaming and the other is hungry, etc etc... it turned out, the day was great.  It was better than great.  We celebrated my mom's birthday last night with the whole family, so not only did I survive the day on my own, I also was able to shower, do my hair, get me and both boys dressed, load the car with everyone/everything, and get to dinner....EARLY!  Okay, so this is a little bit of a fib...my mom stopped by briefly and I handed Andy to her while I showered.  He would have been fine sitting in his chair, but she was there and offered, so I took it!

Juggling both boys is tricky, but I am figuring it out.  Today, for example, Cal was ready for lunch, so I put him in his chair and got his food cooking.  Andy was crying, so I picked him up.  He immediately latched on to my shoulder (sigh), so I started nursing him (standing up).  Cal's food was ready, so I got the rest of his food ready, with Andy attached, and then my phone rang.  It was Eddie's mom, so I answered it, had Andy attached, and served Cal his lunch-- if that's not multitasking, I don't know what is!!! haha

One way to juggle it all: child labor :) That is only a joke. This was Cal being reallllly helpful while I was vacuuming today.
I have been trying really hard to get both boys asleep at the same time in the afternoon.  I think that will be so huge for later on nap times.  Cal goes down at 1:00 every day, and for the past few days, once I have gotten him down, I focus on getting Andy down.  He's been going down by 1:40, and then naps for about 3 hours...!!!  Which works out perfectly because I get some time with Cal before he wakes up.  I am going to curse myself for writing this because then it will never happen again...it didn't happen yesterday, but today both boys were sound asleep by 1:40 and they are both still down at 3:30 as I write this.

The recovery this time around is so so so different than last time.  I have been off of the pain medicine for almost a week now (last time I was in pain much much longer), and I have been driving and lifting both boys in and out of the car for several days.  They told me at the hospital to not lift Cal for 6 weeks-- like that could ever happen.  I still get sore every now and then, but really, this time is SO much better.

Andy is a good sleeper for the most part.  He usually gets up about 2 times a night-- normally for about an hour each time.  Last night he refused to be put down.  I would nurse and he would fall sound asleep and then as soon as I put him down, he would cry.  It made for a loooong night.  I might sleep in another room tonight with Andy so Eddie can rest.  He has to work all day and needs the rest more than me.  I think if Andy would take a paci, this whole thing would be easier... we are still trying!

In order to make Cal feel special, I am attempting to do creative, fun things with him while Andy naps.  I can't remember where I saw this (Danita, was it you??), but I took a bowl of water with ice cubes it in, and got a bunch of cups and spoons and we headed to the porch....

Cal loved it!  He used the spoons to scoop out the ice and dump them in the different cups.  He was concentrating so hard on not spilling, but he would crack up when he did spill.
 Look at that concentration!!!
He really had a ball and he kept him entertained for close to 45 minutes, which as you may know, it a lot for a little guy!
When he was done, he climbed on top of me (all wet) and tried to give me a kiss (I obliged!):
What happened after this picture is coming up in the next post...I need advice!

So that's what's been going on around here!  We are surviving and doing well so far, I think!  Let's see if I am saying that at the end of the week.... we shall see! haha-- I might be drinking a beer at 1:00 on Friday waiting for Eddie to get home! haha!

Memorial Day Weekend

I hope you all had fabulous Memorial Day Weekends! It was strange this year not being at the beach. I can't remember the last time I was not at the coast for this "kick off the summer" weekend. Eddie's parents and sister all came in for the weekend, so we decided to stick around Chapel Hill. Not sure we would have made the trip to the beach regardless with two bambinos!

Eddie's mom, Patty, flew in on Wednesday- one week after I had Andy.  Eddie's dad got in on Friday, and his sister got in Saturday morning.  We had a full house, but Cal was in heaven!  He had full on attention from everyone in the house...I was worried how it would be when everyone left (that will be the next post), and he only had my attention and he would be splitting that with his brother!

Eddie and his dad played golf one day during Cal's nap (so as to not miss any Cal time), and they tried to take him golfing one day-- just for 9 holes, but Cal was feeling rather "two" that day, and he refused to get off of the fairway.  Eddie called after the first hole and asked me to come and get him- ha!

The whole family went to the pool one afternoon for about an hour.  I was in need of some get out of the house time, and Carrie and Eddie's dad really wanted to see Cal play at the pool.

I was horrible about taking pictures this weekend, sadly.  Here are some of the ones that I got...

after the pool, Andy needed to nurse, so I sat in the car with him and the rest of the family waited while Cal displayed his swing.

Even though we weren't at the beach, it was a nice weekend in town.  Patty spoiled us rotten with some fun toys for Cal (and some fun shoes for me!!!).

I feel so spoiled anyway to have two amazing little boys that I get to love on!
