Busy Weekend

We had such a fun, but busy weekend.  We woke up early and I participated in a 5K walk/run (please.  I walk.) which was in honor of Justin Straus, the former student of mine that lost his fight with Chordoma, a rare form of brain cancer.  The event was organized by Justin's best friend's girlfriend. The thought that a 14 year old girl could pull of an event like this is just crazy to me.  I was so proud of her, and I can only imagine how proud her parents must have been.  She wanted to give the event as a gift to James (Justin's best friend).  They weren't sure how many would turn out, and I was thinking maybe 30-40 would show.... well, I was wrong.  We ended up with more like 150-175.  It was incredible.  Here are some pictures from the day:

These are such great kids and Justin's death has had a huge impact on them (and their teachers).  Justin was an amazing person and we all learned from him.  Justin's dad, Steve, spoke to the group and shared stories about Justin and James.  I think because I am pregnant, I have a whole new understanding to the pain of losing a child.  The thought of it literally takes my breath away.  It was sad talking to Justin's parents before I was pregnant, but now it is almost painful for me.  I just cannot imagine the pain they go through on a daily basis.  Justin's dad copes by talking about Justin and his memories of him.  I do not know how I would cope.

This is a sad post, and I didn't mean for it to be!  It was a wonderful day and a great way to celebrate Justin.

After I left the 5k WALK, I met Sara, Katie, and Amy for another walk!  This one was about 3 miles.  Hank and I were exhausted half way through the day!  It was so gorgeous out though, so it was worth it.  I would have done anything to spend the day outside!

Hank had some hot spots on his bum (:( ), so we had to make a trip to the vet after school on Friday.  The best way for it to heal is to shave the area.  SO, sweet Hank has a bald butt.  I took a picture of him when we were playing outside:
