CABO!

Ohhhh, Mexico.....

Eddie and I left last Monday morning and headed here, the Esperanza Hotel in Cabo San Lucas.  And let me tell you....the hotel was absolutely amazing.   The rooms were ridiculously nice (with our own infinity pool/hot tub on our balcony), the staff beyond courteous and the food and drinks were AH-mazing.  It was such a fabulous and relaxing vacation-- just what we needed!

Eddie booked our flights down for first class, and we soaked up all the treats that come with that perk-- the hot nuts, meals and, of course, the beverages.

I kept track of my drinks like a responsible adult.  I sent this pic to a friend and she complimented my finger nail polish. Two things: the left hand looked MUCH better than the right (sigh) and the color is called Topless and Barefoot by Essie.   I may or may not have picked the color based on the name... any one else do that?

We arrived at the resort excited to check out our room! But it wasn't ready so we enjoyed (another) drink at the bar while we waited briefly.

It wasn't long after we checked in that Eddie was breaking in our hot tub/pool:

This was the view out the shower window-- right over the tub:

I had a really bad cold before we left and I was feeling pretty good all day traveling, hardly coughing at all.  But we had a big dinner the first night and my cold caught up with me and I started feeling crappy.  But before I felt too bad, we got a quick selfie!

While we were at dinner Monday night, we saw a couple that looked super familiar... after staring at them for entirely too long, we realized we met them in Italy, on a trip we did 8 years ago! We had SO much fun with them on that trip and this trip was no different.  They had friends they knew already from a previous trip, and those people had friends they knew too, so we instantly were in with a group of 12 people-- and it was so much fun.

I woke up to the most beautiful sunrise Tuesday morning.  Eddie headed out to meetings early and I was lazy.  Actually, I was lazy most of the trip.  I went and had breakfast and enjoyed this view...

I was enjoying eating alone with my book (I need to do a book post because I have been loving books lately), when this guy decided to join me!

After brief meetings, we headed to the pool where I sat in pool lounge chairs most of the day.  And it was pretty spectacular.

Eddie and the guys spent most of their days like this:

That night, Eddie and I went to dinner at The Office in town.  It is a really cute restaurant right on the beach.

We sat up on the porch, which we loved and had some great food (and margaritas, too!)

As we walked back to our shuttle, I tried hard to talk Eddie into getting these sombreros for the boys.  He wasn't amused.  Can't you tell? (we didn't end up getting them, by the way....) (and maybe Ed was right: the margaritas were doing the talking for me...)

The next day was much like the previous: sleeping in, breakfast and pool! I will say, this hotel had awesome workouts available (for free!).  From TRX classes to beach boot camp to pilates to tabata classes.  And I did not participate in one.  Nada.  I kinda couldn't believe it.  The last day, I wanted to slap myself for not doing one bit of exercise.  But you know what? I slept.  A lot.  And it was what I needed.  And I refuse to let myself feel guilty about that.  Stepping off soap box now... see? I look pretty happy for not working out, right?

We had the theme dinner that night down on the beach.

They had it set up really nicely down there and we had a great night!

This picture just cracks me up... Becki and Josh were about to take a picture and I decided to "pop it" right in front of them because, well, that's what I do...? I didn't think they would actually take the picture. My dorky face and Becki cracking up makes me so so happy.  She gets me.

We tried to get a shot of the whole group.  They all said "do a prom pose!" and I thought they were joking.  Eddie and I failed at the prom pose.  Oh well.  Cute couples!

We were up bright and early the next morning to go deep sea fishing.  When I tell people we went fishing, they are usually surprised that I actually was the one really wanting to go.  We had a great group on the boat and I knew it was going to be a fun day.  I have never in my life been sea sick-- or close to it-- so I passed when everyone on the boat took dramamine.  Instead, I popped my antibiotic on an empty stomach and cracked open a luke warm beer at 8:35am.  It was rough out there.  Like a lot of white caps.  I started not feeling great so I nibbled on some crackers and chugged some water.  I fought the urge for a while and then decided to just get sick and feel better.  It lasted all of 30 seconds and then I was better. Eddie, who usually is first to blow, could seriously not believe I got sick.  Happens to the best of us, right?? Enough about that... back to the day!

This was the sun rising as we left the marina.  It was truly breathtaking.

As I was taking the above sunrise picture, Eddie was on the upper deck of the boat and got a picture of me taking a picture :)

Right off the bat we had some excitement with a huge sailfish hooking up, but then getting off hook.  We had another close call, but then a whole lot of nothing (other than me singing the fish as I hurled crackers).

Right around 11, we saw a marlin swimming near us and we cast our live bait towards him and he bit it.  I was sitting in the fighting chair, so I got to start off reeling him in.  These fish can fight for 30 minutes to an hour, so there was no way only one person would reel him in.  I went for a while and then everyone else took a turn.

This was the big guy when we got him on board.

He was a heavy one!

After the big catch, our trip was over and we headed back to the dock.  They rigged him up to weigh him (112lbs) and we took a few pictures.

They fileted the fish for us and we took the meat to a restaurant around the marina who prepared us some amazing food:

The girls while we waited to eat!

Oh! I almost forgot! When we were coming back into the marina, we were all just hanging out on the back of the boat and we spotted a sea lion swimming next to our boat.  Next thing we knew, he jumped up on the back platform of the boat! He was looking for left over bait fish! He was so cute and SO SO huge! He swung open the back door on the boat and surveyed our catch.  He was adorable...and it scared me to death at the same time!

We spent some time in the marina after fishing and then headed back to the hotel to rest up for dinner out that night.  We met our group in the lobby and took a few quick pictures before we left.

We ate at Peacocks and I can't recommend it enough! It was delicious!

The next day, we spent at the pool, soaking up the sun and relaxing.  View from breakfast:

We went back to The Office for dinner with the whole group this time.  We had a great table right in front of the band and we had so much fun! My dress was not cooperating in this picture.  I look like a house.  Once again, I didn't follow the memo to put hands on hips.  Oh well.

 The group at dinner:

Our last day at the resort, a huge storm blew in and we had rain for pretty much the whole day.  And none of us cared! We still stayed by the pool with umbrellas up and sipping cocktails.  It was still a fun day!

The final night we had a wonderful dinner outside.  While we were sitting there, we heard mumblings of Sammy Hagar and Emeril Lagasse eating dinner near by us.  I saw them walk by and then I decided to meet them.  I had had some wine.  So after dinner, I opted to use the restroom in the room neat their table.  They were with some couples and I stopped and chatted with them for about 10 minutes on my way back to my table.  I walked back by later and Emeril stopped me to ask me how tall I was.  Said the table was curious.  I was wearing my big wedges, which put me over 6' I think.  I stopped to talk to them for a while and then asked for a picture.  They were super nice and willing to take a picture with me.  It was definitely a fun moment!

It was SUCH a fun trip! HUGE shout out to my mother in law who kept both boys and both dogs while we were gone-- that ain't easy, let me tell you! She did a GREAT job and everyone was happy when we got home! I loved the time away with Eddie- we look forward to a solo trip each year.  Means the world to us!
