Nursing question

Not sure how many people reading this will be able to help, but I hope someone will!

Now that Cal is sleeping for longer stretches at night (YAY), I am waking up before him in a great deal of pain with my boobs about to explode (sorry for anyone reading this that didn't want to know that). Last night, I woke up at 4:00 and he didn't get up until 5:30. I just laid in bed waiting for him to wake up.

I thought maybe I should just pump before I go to bed, or around 10:00, so that I am not going from 7 until 5... if I do that, will I just train my body to make more milk? Or does it not work like that? OR, should I get up and pump at 4, just to have some relief?

Can anyone offer advice? THANK YOU! :)

i never pumped, so i'm not the expert on this...the only reason i didn't pump was because i was scared i would teach my body to make even more milk!! however...i am told it doesn't work like that! i think if you pump before bed you will be fine! when i was weaning reagan i just skipped a feeding gradually and my boobs adjusted...not saying it was painless, but they adjust!! :) good luck with that girl and YEAH for cal sleeping longer stretches at night!!!!

it only takes a few really rough nights and for those first few i just used a hand pump and pumped just enough to take the pressure off...good luck! glad he's sleeping so well!

I did the same thing your friend Steph mentioned- once I started weaning Quinn, I skipped a feeding and in a few days my boobs were adjusted. The same things when she started sleeping through the night. I never pumped to relieve the pressure, but I'm sure if I would've pumped a little I wouldn't have been uncomfortable for a couple days. Your body will figure out what's going in a couple days. :)
