What a weekend! What a week, really. I didn't have much time to post this past week because Eddie left Wednesday morning for the week to go to the Masters. I can handle solo time fine, but it ain't easy! We survived though and had a busy and fun weekend! Eddie got home last night so we are back into getting into our groove.
Friday night, Cal had his first tennis match. He's been taking a clinic once a week for a while and the coach mentioned something about the team... we decided to join and give it a shot (pun not intended). I was SUPER nervous! Cal was not. I mean, the kid has never played a real match before-- would he even know what to expect? I also wasn't sure what to expect of this... would we be playing some 8 year old kid who was going to dominate? There were so many things I didn't know- and that made me nervous!
We got there and Cal did great! He ended up playing doubles with a little girl ("she's 7 and a half, mom!") and she had never played before either. She was a little timid of the ball...
Cal during warm ups...
Their coach gave them their assignments for courts, etc...
After a singles match, it was time for doubles, and they were on the court right in front of us. We watched the singles match before this and couldn't get over how good the kid on the other team was-- like over head serving, spiking the ball good. uhhh..... Well, lucky us, this kid played doubles against Cal. HA.
Cal tried really hard and had the time of his life playing. I think he likes to compete. He was so happy out there! He didn't care that they didn't win.
He got two points for his team and had a great first match!
See the kid below in orange? He is prepping to throw the ball up to serve it. HARD.
Cal and his sweet partner. See how big he is smiling? He was thrilled to death to get to play!
He already can't wait until next week to play again!
Cal had quite the cheering section at his match. My parents came and so did Tricia and Tommy. We were all cheering and clapping-- maybe that's why he looks so happy! Maybe he just likes having us all watch him. Either way. It was actually a lot of fun!
We left tennis and went out to eat with everyone. This is the only picture I got... it was a huuuuuge pizza.
Saturday morning, I had high hopes for a workout before taking the boys to a soccer game. But they had been so good all week at getting out the door on time for school that I really just didn't feel like dealing with the chaos and hustle of getting us all out the door in time to workout. Lazy, I know. Whatever.
So we went to the soccer game and the boys had a great time! They played on the same field and actually did pretty well together. I have a video of Andy passing to Cal and then Cal scoring a goal. It was kinda awesome to see them working together like that!
We came home after grabbing lunch and Bruce wanted his picture taken:
I decided to work on the house a bunch on Saturday. It needed some serious cleaning and I spent quite a bit of time cleaning away!
So, while I am vacuuming, I hear a cry and then Andy comes out bawling. I turn off the vacuum to hear him saying "I didn't do it! I didn't do it!"
And then Cal comes out with his hand over his head/face and he's crying too. This is not uncommon in our house. I ask Cal what happened and he said "Andy threw a car at me!" as he lowered his hand and I saw the blood. I carried him into the bathroom (while Andy got more and more hysterical) and looked closer at the cuts. I was able to open then up like a mouth and push them back together again. I gave Cal a washcloth and decided that it was worth it to have it looked at since it was on his face.
So we headed to urgent care-- Andy still screaming-- to have him checked out. We got there and my mom pulled in behind us...THANK YOU, GRANDMA! She calmed Andy down while I got Cal all checked in. He was in great spirits the whole time and he stopped bleeding, so I almost decided to leave, but the nurse who checked him in said it looked like the top one needed at least skin glue, if not a stitch, so we stuck around.
The waiting took forevvvvvvver. Seriously. We were getting bored in the back room waiting.
The doctor came in and determined he thought he could hold both cuts together with some glue (thank you, Lord!) and then went to town gluing. Cal was soooo brave...
The glue stung...a lot.... and he held it together until the doctor left the room. Then he burst into tears saying how much it hurt. And that was nooooo fun for his momma!
They put bandaids over the cuts to keep his hands off of it and sent us on our way.
Everyone there was joking about "brotherly love" and when we left, they all were saying "see ya next time!" instead of just saying bye. I feel like that won't be my last trip there with these wild boys.
I had plans to go out Saturday night but decided to stay in with my buds. Cal was totally fine at this point, but I felt bad leaving him.
Another random thing... before we went to Aruba, our ice maker broke in our refrigerator. We took everything apart and tried to fix it and no luck. My dad came over one night and we took it all apart again and turned on a hairdryer to try to thaw a block of ice (these fridges are known for blocks of ice forming and blocking the dispenser. We got about 4 cubes after that. I was over it. So I emptied our entire fridge to our outside fridge and spent close to 24 hours like this:
After I thought it all should have melted, I plugged the fridge back on again and no ice. I was mad. We have had this fridge for 3 years. It shouldn't be not producing ice! So I basically climbed in the freezer and figured out the arm that turns the ice maker on and off was lodged in the OFF position. I had to force it down into the ON position. 20 minutes later we had ice. I sent a picture to my dad... I knew he would be proud.
It's really sad when I blog about fixing our ice maker. But it was a big deal. And I am proud. So, boom.
Sunday, we went to the country club for the grand opening of our playground! We played for a while and then ate some lunch and then I took a walk while the boys hit some balls. I walked up to see Andy swing:
It was a nice weekend with lots going on. The weather has been soooo nice, even with all the pollen. Bring on another fun week!

First - you are NOT lazy!!! Second, I love the giant pizza!!! What a sweet treat for Cal after tennis:) And finally, we have the exact same fridge!! I bought it specifically because I wanted a clean front (with the water dispenser inside!!) We haven't had any trouble with ours yet, but don't use a lot of ice..but I will refer back to this if we do!!! Glad it was a productive and fun weekend!!
