A long time ago, my mom told me that her mother used to make lists constantly-- her to do list, her grocery list, etc etc... I think I might be a lot like her. I love a good list. I love having everything I need to do in one spot and I looooove marking through the item once it's complete. I am such a dork. I know. Trust me.
I have tried various list making apps and I don't find it nearly as satisfying marking those off...guess I like the sound of the pen striking through the task. Again, I am such a dork.
For a while, I had a list in a little notebook and I would turn to a new page every week. And that worked fine for a while. But, the OCD in me needed something more. My time to accomplish these tasks is a little more limited now in that I m teaching T/Th mornings and I have popup the other days.... so I started making a list within my list (holy cow, it sounds really bad admitting this aloud....).
I had my regular list and then on the side, I would write out the days of the week and then under each day, I would re-write the items from the list that I wanted to accomplish that day-- so essentially writing each task twice. Blah. It worked fine, other than being super redundant. And then I started a small little corner on the list with our dinners each night so I could keep track of that.
Two examples of the old list....
And then I discovered this little gem....
It was on sale at Target for around $5. I loved the polka dots, but there were also some cute stripes and other patterns.
Here's what it looks like when it's opened:
and then there's a big, two page calendar at the end of each month.
I am obsessed with this.
I start each week and write in my standard things like mouse class and popup classes, just so I remember them. I write on each day what is going on on my blog for the day, so I can keep track of what's going where and when. I also write what we are having for dinner each night...
All of those things are in addition to my regular to-do lists for the day.
Plus I like how I can glance at the whole week and take care of anything that I haven't done yet.
This is a small thing that has made my life easier...and who doesn't need things a little easier?? I use iCal for everything else in my life, but I didn't find it conducive for to do lists on days-- was too hard to read it all.
So, there you have it!
Am I crazy that I put this much thought into a to do list??? What do you do for your lists? Are you more of a post it note stuck on a wall kind of person? Or do you write it all down in a book too?
