sick week

Last Friday, Cal woke up with a fever and didn't really kick it until about Tuesday.  Unfortunately, Andy woke up yesterday from his nap with a fever...praying this is super short-lived.  It was inevitable that Andy would get it since they were together constantly.

I still managed to take an unheard of amount of pictures...

Andy wanted in on the snuggle time.

In an effort to contain the illness to one kid, we did separate baths-- Andy loved having the whole tub to himself!

Without his playmate to keep him entertained, there was a lot of iPad time happening at our house since we couldn't go anywhere to PLAY! I am going to do a post on favorite iPad apps-- we have discovered some awesome ones that are actually super educational!

More iPad time for Andy! Hank was willing to play...

Andy needed to rest on Hank for a bit...

At one point of this sickness running its course, Cal's fever was 103.4...and the only thing that would touch bringing it down was a tepid bath.  He was so pitiful and SO hot, so I told him he could take a bath in the big tub, which cheered him right up!

One day Toy Story was on TV...all three boys watched some of it together.  Love this!

Cal was really only content when his momma was holding him-- not easy to do when there's another kiddo needing me too....but I love the snuggles.

This kid was in a good mood for the most part though!

On this day- he wanted the attention Cal was getting so he asked me to help him get "cozy on the couch" just like his brother:

Towards the end of this funk, advil was keeping the fever down and spirits were lifting!

Andy also mastered TCU Frog Fingers this week-- and he was SO excited! The level of concentration that was taking place for this picture was pretty much tangible.  He was grunting and mumbling as he was doing it.  ha! The season can now begin!

And, I can't leave out my 3rd son, Hank.  He was ON TOP of me the entire week.  Not sure if he was upset over Cal being sick or what, but this kid pup was attached to his momma!

He's pretty cute though, so I can't complain!

Here's hoping Andy's fever is SHORT-LIVED and that he stays happy.  We are flying to Texas on Wednesday and I do not want a sick baby on the airplane (or in Texas!).

Dentist

Along with what felt like everyone and their cousin, the boys had a dentist appointment this week.  Cl has been once before and this was Andy's first time.

I had NO idea what to expect of Andy.  He bit Cal the morning of the appointment and left a HUGE mark, so really, I was kinda expecting him to bite the tar out of the technician... ;)

Thankfully, both boys did GREAT and I am so happy and proud to report they are both cavity free!

I made their appointments back to back so that Cal could go first and Andy could watch and then Andy could go... but they ended up cleaning both teeth at the same time, on side by side chairs.  If you are local and need a pediatric dentist, I can NOT recommend Chapel Hill Pediatric Dentistry enough.  They are so so so good with kids (as you would expect, I guess), and really made the experience enjoyable and fun.

The last time Cal went, he had just given up his paci and his teeth were measuring at a 3 or a 4 (that relates to the teeth jutting out, or something like that) and his teeth had since corrected themselves to a 1/ close to 0.  I am thankful he gave up the paci when he did! Andy is measuring at a 3, which stunned me...I thought he would be way worse than that with his finger sucking!

Of course, I mentioned the finger sucking to the dentist and she said to wait until he is a little bit older and able to reason and then start making finger sucking off limits in certain areas of the house (i.e. there is no finger sucking allowed in the kitchen, and then move it to the whole downstairs and then move it to only the car and the crib...).  I feel like that's pretty doable.  I was about to purchase the horrible tasting stuff that you paint on his fingers.  I have a friend who used it for her daughter who bit her nails and she said her daughter was gagging and foaming at the mouth.... not sure I am ready for *that* yet....

Cal walked right over to the table and hopped up there like it was his day job.  He was totally fearless and loved it! Having Cal be so brave was awesome for Andy-- Andy didn't want to be the cry baby!  For kids Andy's age, they have them sit on their mom's lap facing their mom with legs on either side and they lay their heads back on the technician's lap on a pillow.  Andy did GREAT with this! He loved having her count his teeth and he thought the toothpaste they used to clean his teeth was just the greatest tasting thing ever.  Andy is always very concerned with "where ____ go??" He must ask me 908 times every single day "where daddy go???" It is actually really sweet of him to be concerned! Well, half way through the cleaning, he asked (with the lady's hands in his mouth): "where Cal go??" We had to let him sit up and see that Cal was still right next to him... made my heart swell a bit :)

I am proud of my boys and their cavity free mouths!!!

Random pictures from the iPhone

Sickness is still hitting our house.  Yesterday was day 3 of CalBoy having a fever, and it was around 103 all day.  I took him to the doctor today and he thinks it was just a virus, but Cal also has developed a huge welt-like thing under his arm, so he looked at that and thought that was from some sort of infection, SO we got on an antibiotic.  Whatever it takes to kick this thing! We have NINE more sleeps until we are back on an airplane and we need to all be healthy.

Cal's fever is weird-- yesterday, Advil would bring it down to about 101, but the only way we could get it below 101 was a bath... so we had a bunch of baths yesterday trying to manage this thing and keep Cal comfortable.

All of that said, I don't have much to report to the ol blog... so I am going to share pictures from my phone since we've been home from Mexico...

These two can fight/bite like little terrors, but when it comes time to snuggle, they can be SO sweet.  Andy loves laying his pillow on anyone/anything to snuggle up.

No.  He didn't peepee.... but I thought his little tan lines were pretty cute while trying...

More snuggle time.  I love my dog...

Heyyyy, sweet pup...

After bath time, they were helping me do laundry...

Rest time ended, but he wasn't quite done resting...

I went in to check on Cal the other night and this is how he was sleeping...

I moved him to the other side and this was his after...

Andy woke up from a nap and thought grandma was going to be here.  She wasn't.

These boys love their daddy!

We were heading outside to play-- Nug found some boots and was ready to go!

Andy loves to drive this truck!

Going to get the mail...

Brothers in boots!

Hopefully, I will be doing a post tomorrow saying we have had a fever free night! Momma is looking forward to sleeping! ha!

Pirates and Princesses

What feels like forever ago, tickets went on sale for Disney's Pirates and Princesses which was touring around.  Ava's mom asked me if Cal and I would like to go with them and we did!

Friday morning, Cal had a play date with the Turtle class, his new class at school.  I was in my room getting dressed and the boys were in the play room playing.  I walked in to get Cal dressed and he was on the couch in a ball and he told me he didn't feel well.   I asked him if he thought he would be okay to go to the play ground with his new class, and he said that he didn't think so.... so you KNOW the boy doesn't feel well if he's passing up a playground play date!

I covered him in a blanket and Hank took over the watch duties.  (how sweet is this dog...? I love him).
I couldn't find a working thermometer in our house (seriously?!?!) but I could feel his head and tell he was burning up.  I gave him some advil and he rested a bit.  Then the advil kicked in, and...

A sure sign he is feeling better, shirtless races!

But soon, the advil wore off again, and the fever was back.  I was SO torn with what to do-- we had these tickets and Cal and Ava were both SO SO excited about going together.  Cal felt great when he had the advil... he swore he was okay to go and didn't want to miss the show.

He got another dose of advil before heading over to Ava's house.  You can tell in his eyes that he doesn't feel great...
(also, can we talk about this weather?? this cold front came in and it feels like October, not August!)

Jill, Ava's mom grabbed her thermometer after feeling Cal's forehead and it read 101.3.  You can just call me super mom for taking my kid out like this.  Jill swore she didn't care so we went (judge me if you want).

By the time we arrived at the DPAC, the advil kicked in and Cal was his usual happy, cheerful self!

The wind was blowing and these two thought it was too funny trying to get a picture in the wind.

We passed by a ton of paraphernalia for pirates and princesses, but we opted for a picture instead.  haha! Cal asked for popcorn when we got there and since he hadn't eaten much all day, I was happy to buy him some.  I went to the first little window and ordered some-- it was only $2...I shoved it in my purse and we walked upstairs-- there I saw the HUGE buckets of popcorn.  I offered to get that for him, but he said "you already got me some popcorn!" We got to our seats and I pulled out the little bag I bought and it was a 100 calorie pack- haha! Whoops!

Doc McStuffins came out first and she had the kids do a little dance to get out their sillies and their wiggles.  Cal was a little in awe of it all...

My and my sweet date! We put the kids in the middle and the moms on the outside of the group-- by the end of the show, Cal and Ava were sharing a seat and Jill had moved into Ava's seat.

Mickey and Minnie walked out to start the show and Cal was STUNNED.  He said, "I just can't believe they are really here!" (and my heart melted a little bit).

Jill bought some cotton candy-- Cal and Ava's first time having it! They both weren't sure what to think of the texture. Cal wouldn't take his eyes off of the show.

The whole first half was about princesses-- specifically Sofia the 1st.  She was faced with a problem and needed help solving it-- well, she sought help from Cinderella.  When Cinderella appeared, Cal let out the biggest GASP and then screamed, "IT'S CINDERELLA!" Cal is a boy and doesn't much care for princesses.  He has never seen Cinderella. He is into trucks and cars and planes...but he was SO excited for this.... the pic is blurry, but you get the idea of his face...

And, being the cheesy mom that I am, I teared up.  Full on tears in my eyes.  You can make fun.  He was just so excited and happy and I felt this overwhelming since of feeling blessed that I got to take him there.  There is nothing better than seeing your kid truly happy.  And that's what Cal was.  So I was teary-eyed watching Cinder-freaking-ella. (anyone remember that line from Pretty Woman?)

The audience sang along the theme song to Sofia and then it was intermission.

During intermission, Ava looked over at Cal and said, "this is SO awesome!" and Cal said, "it really is!!!" haha- and Jill and I were so so glad we brought them.  Also, shout out to Advil....

The second act was all about pirates! Jake and his crew came out and Cal thought that was just awesome.   Cal and Ava spent the rest of the show standing shoulder to shoulder watching it all.

After the show, we decided to grab dinner, but we were going to leave the DPAC to avoid crowds from the next show.  We went to Nantcket and ate outside and the kids ran around and played.

Cal and Ava had so much fun together and held hands on the way home!

The fever was back when we got home, sadly and when he woke up the next day, he was still feeling yucky:

Hopefully this cold is on the way OUT! We are over it-- but, I am sure it won't leave without hitting someone else in the family!

Eddie and I have been debating about Disney World/Disney Cruise and even signed up for the cruise this spring.  After seeing this show, I have no doubts that we need to do the cruise (and wait for world until they are another year older).  Cal was so excited to see the characters and I know Andy will be too! We signed up for a cruise and I am now without a doubt so glad we did!

I loved having a little date night with my sweet boy!
