Doc appointment and some sad news

I guess I shouldn't put that as the heading.... the doctor's appointment today was great: nothing but good news.  I was worried because the last time I went, the doctor told me that the next doctor I saw might say something about my weight.  GREAT.  I know I am going to gain weight, and I am fine with that, but I also don't want a doctor telling me I have gained too much, etc...  I have been working out and feeling fine, so if he had anything to say, I was ready with a defense.  He did have something to say: a compliment!  He told me I was gaining the right amount of weight.  He told me if he had been the one to see me a few months ago when I had my "spurt" then he would have told me to slow down a little bit, but all the exercise I have been doing seems to be paying off.  Phew!  The heartbeat was great and everything is measuring as fine.  I could feel some movement going on when I went to lay down on the table and I asked him about the tightening in my stomach and he told me I was having a contraction...!!!  How about that?  I have been feeling it for a while now, so it is crazy to think those feelings are actually contractions.  Obviously, when it's "go time" the contractions will feel nothing like that and will be a WHOLE lot more painful... Also, my blood came back that I am slightly anemic.  Apparently, my mom was big time when she was pregnant, so this isn't too big of a surprise.  It just makes me get more tired easier.  This makes sense because I have become accustomed to taking an afternoon nap every day.  He put me on an iron supplement, and then also suggested I immediately take a stool softener as well (sorry-- this is getting graphic!) because the iron will umm... back me up....?  I went to the pharmacy and the lady working saw what I was buying (just the iron), and made me go to aisle 16 for the laxatives!  She said she couldn't let me buy one without the other-- funny!

So now, on to the sad news....

Many of you may have heard of the shooting on ECU's campus.  Well, the kid that was shot, Landon Blackley is a close family friend of ours.  His dad works at Edward Jones with my dad and Eddie and Chris.  He started before my dad did and we have known him for 20 years.  Landon was 21 when he was shot, so you can see we have known him a long time.  Apparently, he walked outside of a bar in downtown Greenville at closing, and a man drove by and opened fire.  He shot two people: Landon and a bar manager.  They were just innocent bystanders that had nothing to do with the shooter.  I know this is a baby blog and I should be writing about baby things and growth spurts, etc, but this is just weighing heavily on my heart and my mind and I need an outlet somewhere.  I was not good friends with Landon at all, but I have known his family for so long that I just hurt for them.  I also hurt for my parents at what they must be going through.  I know it's tough for parents to see other parents lose a child.  I can't imagine what the Blackley's are going through.  If you do hear of this story on the news, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers (or if you don't hear about it on the news, still think about them...).  We are all very sad and heartbroken by the whole thing, and wish the Blackley's some kind of comfort during this time.  Thanks for reading all the way down.

The Nursery Updated

We have done some work on our nursery... here are some updates pics:
This is the onesie that is in the crib right now, in honor of Father's Day: I'm Told I Like Golf...

Our new bedding... LOVE it! (why is this underlined? and why can't I UN-underline it??)

This last one is of the new shade we had put in.  We had to figure out how to block out the top window for nap time!  This room is in the front of the house and gets a ton of sun, so we had to find an oddly shaped shade.  I am LOVING how the nursery is coming together... hope the babe does too!

3 years!

Yesterday, we are celebrated our 3rd year of marriage... woohoo!  It's been such a great 3 years; I can't wait for the next 60.  Or 70 (but then we'd be REALLY old! I guess that's the point, right?)... Here are some pictures from our big day 3 years ago...

LOVE YOU, Eddie!!!

Bassinet

My mom is the most creative person I have ever met.  She can take an ugly item and create the most beautiful thing ever.  I think she is related to Martha Stewart somehow.  Actually, she puts Martha to shame.  Sadly, I didn't get any of those skills, but I am lucky enough to have a mother who can do it all!  This bassinet is from Pottery Barn, but I couldn't really find any bedding I was crazy about.  Mom offered to make some and I love what she came up with!

J. Hilburn Conference in Dallas

Leslie and I at the welcome dinner.

On Friday, I flew out to Texas with Tiffani for the 2nd annual J. Hilburn conference.  I joined J. Hilburn last August when the thought of starting a family was in the somewhat near future.  I love love love teaching, but I also know that I want to be able to stay at home with the kids to raise them.  AND the cost of daycare is so high, we would be about breaking even with what I make every month!

SO, I joined this AMAZING company called J. Hilburn (www.jhilburn.com).  It is NOT a direct sell company, or anything like that... I sell custom clothing to men.  Right now we have custom made dress shirts and polos, but we are going to be launching sweaters, slacks, and more very very soon.

I originally did this job just to have a little extra income, but also because it is a way for me to get out and interact with the community more.  I also did it because I hoped the potential would be there for me to do this full time with a baby at home.  It is turning out to be all of the above!

I had a great time in Dallas and am so motivated to keep on selling!

Our First Shower!

COUPLE'S SHOWER!

Thursday night, the most wonderful friends in the world threw us a couple's shower.  We had SUCH a great time and it makes us feel incredibly blessed to have these wonderful people in our lives.  Cal is going to be one loved baby!
At the start of the party... ready to celebrate!

Me with the 5 hostesses: Andrea, Sara, Julie, Elizabeth, and Katie.  I am SO lucky to have friends like these!  They worked so hard to make the shower as wonderful as it was.
I LOVE THEM!

The koozies were a HUGE hit of the night!  I LOVE THEM (how many times can I write that on one post??)!  For our wedding, we had a bunch of stuff with CWE on it: Eddie is Calvin Edwin Williamson, I am Carrie Elizabeth Williamson, and together, we are Carrie and Eddie Williamson, so it applies all around!  Now our little one has to follow the same trend too!
Tiffani and Peter, our amazing friends (I LOVE THEM!), gave us a Baby Bjorn.  Of course, Eddie had to give it a go... oh my!  That thing is complicated!  We got some learning to do to figure out a faster way to put the thing on!  haha!

My good friend, Leslie, came to the shower all the way from Winston-Salem.  She is a trooper since she is pregnant with TWINS!  I am so excited for her and it was great to see her before she heads out to LA for her new life!

Thank you to Elizabeth, Sara, Andrea, Julie, and Katie for the most amazing shower EVER!

KICK KICK KICK

This little guy is kicking and moving like crazy!  In the mornings, when I am still in bed, he is just kicking away, and it is very easy to feel him from the outside of my stomach.  He kicks pretty regularly throughout the day, but you can't always feel him from the outside.  At night, usually it is pretty easy to feel him going wild.  Last week, I rested the remote control on my stomach to see what would happen.  He was kicking like crazy and the whole remote was jumping around.

He is actually kicking right now and I am writing this... I think he's going to be an active baby!

Glucose Test

Yesterday I had my glucose screening test.  I was dreading the test because of the horror stories I have heard about the nasty tasting liquid.  My friend, Stephanie, said it wasn't that bad when she had to do it, so I thought I would be fine.  UGH- it was foul.  It tasted like some wrongly made kool-aid.  It was as thick as syrup and as sweet as extra sugary kool-aid.  I will find out tomorrow if I passed the test.  If I didn't pass it, I will be VERY upset because that will mean I will have to retake the test and drink even more of the junk to be tested again!

The purpose of the test is to screen for gestational diabetes.  I love my sweets, so I am hopeful that I can keep on eating them.  It probably wouldn't hurt me to lay off of them a little bit....but not yet!

The doctor I saw yesterday checked my cervix to make sure I was "dilating on the sly."  Seriously.  Her words, not mine.  Everything was fine with no signs of dilating.  Thank goodness!  This baby still has some cooking to do!  His heart rate was great and everything else looks good.  My next appointment is in 2-3 weeks and then from then, I will start going every 2 weeks!  I can't believe I am already to that point!  This pregnancy is flying by... :)

Oh Boy! 25 weeks!

We had people over last night for a little cookout and had the greatest time, but it is amazing how the times are changing!  Katie and Chapman brought their daughter Millie, Sara and Toland brought their son Billy, and Peter and Tiffani brought Tiffani's parents, who brought their grandson, Tiffani and Peter's nephew, Judson.  Everyone came over around 6 and we had quite a spread of food!  I called my mom at 8:30 and was already washing dishes!  Everyone had to get their babies home to bed!  My, how the times are changing! haha!

  I wore a new shirt:
Oh Boy.
(for some reason, this shirt cracks me up..)

and a side view.  25 weeks pregnant!  woohoo!
Sara, me, Katie and Tiffani :)  The husbands were grilling and chasing around kids!

Working on the nursery...

Everyone knows I am a super planner and I like to get things organized and put together.  I would much rather do it sooner rather than later (even though I know I have lots of time!).  We have the furniture (except for the chair.... to come later!), and now we have the curtains hanging, and I love them!  I took some pictures and Hank had to come be a part of it too....
The chair won't be staying around, but you can see the curtains and the changing table.
The chest of drawers looking out to the hallway.
The book shelf, even though the pic is sideways.... opps!

....and the little 86 pound first baby...
